So, big news – Jay and I are packin’ up and headin’ out West! Orange County, to be exact.
Why, you ask?
For those of you new to our little life adventures, Jay has been completing a 2 year worship residency at The Village Church. The residency ends in August, so we’ve been praying about our next steps for a little while now.
A few months ago the opportunity of working alongside a church plant in Orange County was placed before us. We visited in March and God really made it clear to us where we should be (there).
Everything leading up to this decision – becoming acquainted with the pastor and the church, doors closing here in Dallas, etc. – was in a way only God could have orchestrated. It’s so reassuring and exciting to see God’s plan unfolding before us. And seeing the progression of this decision and all of the effects that follow is a reminder of how good the God we serve is. I’m glad I’m on his team!
This picture was taken during our trip in March. We were overlooking Orange County and it really put things into perspective being able to look out over the city we’d be serving. It’s so big that it may seem overwhelming, but our God is bigger.
When are you leaving? (aka, When will you break our hearts and leave?)
We’re heading out mid-June. We want to get started with our new lives out there and begin building community.
Where? What church?
We’ll be serving alongside of Cross of Christ church in Costa Mesa.
“Why Orange County?” you may be wondering?
1 || Jay has said since the summer that he was maybe feeling called in the California direction. At first, I was opposed. Dallas is my home and has always been my home. It’s my comfort. But a lot of times we’re not called to stay in our comfort zones. Especially if the Lord is calling you elsewhere.
Isn’t it so much better to be living in God’s will, albeit uncomfortable and stressful at times, than to be in rebellion against him?
2 || As Christians, we’re called to do certain things. For me, I’m supposed to: love God, serve the church, and love my husband well. I think I’ll be able to thrive in those areas while in Orange County.
3 || Orange County is the center of our culture where trends spread like wildfire. It has a lot of influential people in and around it. Why shouldn’t Jay and I go there to start spreading the gospel and work to have THAT trend spread throughout the country? When we realized this mindset, making the choice to move there seemed simple.
But friends, I’m not posting this to say it’s going to be easy so you should be jealous. Nor am I going to brag about the weather (well… that may come later). This is going to be a tough season. It’s going to challenge and stretch Jay and I in our marriage. I’m going to have to say goodbye to friends that I really love and learn to make new ones. I’ll have doubts along the way. We’ll have to make new lives without the comfort and ease of being in the town where we grew up.
Serving our Church and following the Lord’s calling on our life is going to be good, and right, and God-glorifying. So I’m in.
