I’m SO EXCITED that it’s officially fall! But I know there are lots of people out there that just aren’t feelin’ the season yet… Maybe because they don’t love it as much as other seasons or maybe because their weather isn’t fall-like yet. No matter the reason, I thought it’d be fun to share my personal favorite 5 ways to embrace fall! As soon as it’s officially fall on the calendar (aka, today!), I switch over to doing these “fall-ish” things, and then I’m totally ready for the season!
A lot of my friends actually started decorating for fall about a month ago, but I’m not allowed to do that here in the Howard household! Why? Well, Jay is a big believer in not celebrating things until it’s time. He likes each season or holiday to get it’s due attention (as if they have feelings or something), so we’re pretty strict over here about following the calendar for holidays and season changes. For example, we don’t put anything Christmas-related up until the day after Thanksgiving and as soon as Christmas is over (like, December 26th) the tree comes down!
Anyway – I’ve been super excited for fall and have reallyyy been wanting to fully embrace it, but I’ve been holding back because I do still love summer and wanted to be as “in the moment” as possible (eating watermelon, burning fruity candles, going to the beach, etc.). But now that we’ve shifted seasons, it’s goodbye summer and hello pumpkins, fall clothes, and fireplaces!
Below are my top 5 ways to embrace fall and how I swap out those summery things to fully embrace the new season. Let me know if you agree!
|| 5 Ways to Embrace Fall ||
1 || UPDATE YOUR HOME DECOR
In the Howard home, I swap out my normal bright flowers for more autumn-y colors, run to Trader Joe’s to purchase their adorably tiny white pumpkins, change up my couch cushions, and add fall-ish throws. Our current place is kind of small, so there’s not tons of room for fall items, but eventually when we get our own house, I’m 100% going to change up our fireplace mantle, our entry table, and so much more! But even if your home is a bit smaller like ours, it’s still possible to make a few small changes to add fall decor!
2 || BUY FALL CANDLES
What is fall without fall smells? Pumpkin, apple, baked goods… It really doesn’t matter what your “smell” preference is just as long as you find something you love and burn the heck out of it! Seriously though, smells can change your mood and can immediately remind you of something or bring you back to a time you enjoy, so find your happy fall small and go for it!
3 || CHANGE YOUR STARBUCKS ORDER
Yep, this one’s a small thing, but it’s true! By switching from my normal iced passion teas to my hot pumpkin spice lattes, my mind is automatically switched over into full fall mode! Even if you don’t like PSLs (because, let’s face it, it’s basically pumpkin-flavored sugar water!), then at least start to switch your cold drinks to hot ones. There’s just something about that white cup (that eventually turns red – yay!) that gets you amped for the season!
4 || INVEST IN BOOTS & BOOTIES
While it’s definitely acceptable to wear booties occasionally in the spring and summer with a dress or some shorts, it’s not the same as wearing them in fall. In fall, you get to add on all those fabulous layers (vests, scarves, jackets!) along with your boots and booties! I’ve been building up my boots and booties collection all year, so I’m sharing the ones I’ve invested in so far… basically a different style and color for every day of the week! Simply click the boots you like to shop.
5 || CHANGE YOUR NAIL COLOR TO FIT THE SEASON
Yep, another small one, but still right on-point! In summer, I’m all about white, pink, or nude nails. And while I will still probably rock the nude nails every now and then this season, there’s no better time to embrace those darker, edgier colors than in fall. Think burgundys, navys, and greys. It’s just another small way to remind yourself when you look down at your hands that, “Hey! It’s fall!” 🙂
Side note: I stopped getting my nails manicured for the time being to save up a little money for my allowance (yes, Jay and I have monthly allowances!), and it’s been a long journey to find the perfect, long-lasting nail color, but I’ve finally found it! I’m seriously loving Revlon’s gel nail colors – It’s stayed on for 2 weeks every time so far! Shop the colors below:
