So, I’ve decided to do something new and exciting on the blog! If you know me at all, then you know I’m a saver and don’t like to spend a ton of money. However, as a fashion blogger, there are times when I obviously need to shop. While I love online shopping, there’s still something really fun about going into the store to try things on. So I’ve decided that every month I’m going to go shopping (probably mostly at Nordstrom, but I’d be open to other stores too if y’all would want me to go elsewhere!) and create a little “Dressing Room Diaries” post documenting my adventure. It’ll be two birds with one stone: a fun post for y’all and purchasing clothes for myself (for future blog posts, of course!).
If you follow me on Snapchat (erinchoward), then you came along with me last week to Nordstrom. I picked out a few of my favorite items in the store and tried everything on in the dressing room. I took photos of each item and asked y’all to screenshot the ones you liked. Based on how everything fit, the price, and how many screenshots it got, I walked away with a few favorites!
If you didn’t catch all that fun over on my Snapchat, no worries! I’ve created this post to highlight all of the items, what I thought about each one, and which ones I purchased. If you’re bummed you missed the voting, you can still let me know your favorites in the comments 🙂

Top (navy)- HIT!
Thoughts: This was by far my favorite purchase of the day! Now that we’re transitioning out of off-the-shoulder season (sad day), I’m not totally ready to give up my shoulder exposure. So this cold-shoulder trend is now my new favorite! The top also comes in 3 colors!
How I’ll style it: Did you know it’s a myth that you can’t wear white after Labor Day? I’m loving this navy color specifically because I can wear it with my white denim and booties for a fun fall outfit that breaks all the rules!
Top (grey/ivory)- HIT!
Thoughts: As I walked around Nordstrom carrying this top, I got stopped multiple times by girls asking where I grabbed the top so they could go get it too. There’s just something about lace and ruffles that makes people happy! It comes in 3 colors if you’re not into the grey and white right now.
How I’ll style it: Again, I love that it’s breaking the wearing-white-after-Labor-Day rule. Because the top is so feminine, I’m going to “edge” it up a bit by pairing it with distressed denim and my black caged heels!
Dress (olive)- HIT!
Thoughts: This criss-crossed trend is really big right now, so I just had to jump on it. And I must say, I’m loving it! As you’ll see below, I tried on another color as well… But there’s something about olive right now that gets me excited for fall! So really, any other color didn’t stand a chance. It comes in 8 colors total, so you’ve got tons of options if olive isn’t your thing.
How I’ll style it: I’ve actually already styled it in the olive dress post because I was so excited to pair it with some booties, my leopard purse, and statement earrings!
Dress (tobacco solid)- MISS
Thoughts: Like I said before, most colors don’t stand a chance against olive right now. If I didn’t purchase it in the olive color though, this would’ve been my next choice!
How I would’ve styled it: Since it’s already so warm and orange-y, I’d stay away from anything brown or cognac. It would be really cute paired with nude or black booties!
Leggings (olive sarma) – MISS
Thoughts: While I love olive, these were a little too flimsy for me. I was looking for something with a bit more structure (more like jeans). Since they’re basically leggings, you’d need to wear tops that cover your bum, otherwise they’re too clingy. And I currently don’t have enough longer tops… although I’m building up my collection now! I may come back for these later after I’ve invested in more long sweaters because they’re so comfy! They come in 3 colors.
How I’ll style it: I see these being worn with an oversized black sweater, black booties, and maybe even a moto jacket to play up their edgy style!
Top (grey micro)- HIT!
Thoughts: Sleeveless sweaters are my jam in southern California right now. Since the weather stays in the 60s-70s year round (not complaining!), I don’t have a big need for thick, warm sweaters because I’ll get too hot. That’s where sleeveless sweaters come in! They keep me warmer because of the knit material and allow me to layer on cute jackets without totally dying from heat and having too many layers.
How I’ll style it: There are SO many options with such a neutral color. You could go the edgy route with distressed denim, black booties, and a military jacket. Or you could make it feminine with a tulle skirt and heels!
Top (purple shade)- MISS
Thoughts: I’ll be honest with y’all: This color was screenshotted a few more times than the grey one. But I still went with the grey because of how versatile it can be (see my “How I’ll Style It” above). This one was pretty, but not the right color I was looking for as I transition into fall. But if you like softer, more feminine colors, then this one’s for you!
How I would’ve styled it: Since it’s super feminine, I think I’d make it edgier with some faux leather leggings, black booties, and a chunky necklace.
