Putting together outfits is really fun sometimes! When I was thinking about what to do with this top, the possibilities were almost endless! So I just started browsing through my closet for inspiration. When I came across this skirt (which I had totally forgotten about), I decided I wanted to feature it again. But I knew that pairing it with such a light-colored top would make it super duper feminine. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but my style isn’t 100% romantic and flirty, so this led me to start brainstorming how to bring in other, more edgy pieces to balance everything out. Which brings us to this post where I’m sharing how to add some feminine edge to your style!
You might remember this little sleeveless sweater from my Dressing Room Diaries post last week. I tried on two different colors of this top and asked my Snapchat followers to vote on which one they liked the most. The other color of this top was actually more popular, but I’m always drawn to more neutral tops so that I can spice them up with fun-colored accessories, so I ultimately went with the grey. And I’m so glad I did because I was able to put this outfit together!
While this complete outfit is ultimately still very feminine, there are a few edgy pieces I threw in to balance everything out and I wanted to share my 3 tips for adding that same feminine edge to your own style!
*It’s important to note that this style begins with some feminine pieces (because it’s called “feminine edge”!). So think lace, ruffles, tulle skirts, or pastels. Choose an anchor piece that has one of those elements, then start adding on the edge!

TIP 1 || ADD BLACK
Really though… It sounds so simple, but it’s true! The black in my outfit below (jacket, heels, waistband) darkens the overall look and instantly gives the outfit some edge. Imagine the outfit with no black… Instead with nude heels, no jacket, and the waistband rolled under so you couldn’t see the black. That would be a very soft outfit, which is absolutely adorable, but doesn’t have that edge we’re looking for. So if your flirty outfit is missing black, find a way to tie in little pieces here and there.
TIP 2 || FAUX LEATHER ANYTHING & ZIPPERS
Have a super feminine and flirty top that you want to add edginess to? Faux leather leggings are your answer. Feeling like your regular jeans aren’t giving you enough edge? Try some black denim with zipper pockets. Think your flats are too girly? Swap them for leather heels or boots! Seriously – anytime leather or zippers are involved, the entire style is instantly shifted toward the edgy side. In my case, I added a faux leather jacket to “edge” it up.
TIP 3 || EDGY/BOLD ACCESSORIES & DETAILS
This one is sort of all-encompassing of those “edgy” accessories (studs, spikes, chains, etc). This could be studded flats, purses with cute (not aggressive!) spikes, statement necklaces with lots of chains/rhinestones, chokers, and lots more! For my look, I chose my granite necklace because granite is more edgy and bold than, say, a pearl or gemstone necklace.
Whatever route you choose to go with your edginess, just make sure it’s not over-the-top. We’re not going for a biker look here. Remember, the look is “feminine edge”, so we’re wanting to add more subtle details to our overall feminine look. If you’re wearing a leather jacket, a purse with spikes, leather leggings, studded heels, and a choker… you’ve missed the point!
