As y’all know by now, I’m all about simple and affordable looks. So today, I’ve teamed up with JCPenney to share these fun, day-to-night looks and to provide y’all with some tips you can follow to create your own day-to-night outfit!
I’ve had lots of conversations lately with my friends about how they want to look cute (duh), but are super intimidated by all of the options out there. Not to mention the crazy high prices of some items these days. So with every post I create, I do my best to feature affordable pieces along with tips on how to recreate certain looks or how to rock that season’s trend! (Have you checked out 3 Tips for Wearing White After Labor Day or How To Add Feminine Edge to Your Style yet?)
For that affordability and those on-trend pieces, that’s wear JCPenney comes in! To be honest, I hadn’t checked out their stuff in a while. But once I started scrolling through their site and seeing all of the adorable pieces with much lower prices than what I’m used to seeing elsewhere, I was basically kicking myself for not shopping there more! All of the pieces I’m wearing in this post (minus the jewelry) are JCP! Say what?! So cute, right?
Below are my day and night outfits followed by my tips for creating your own look! Be sure to let me know in the comments which look is your favorite!

|| TIPS TO CREATE A DAY-TO-NIGHT OUTFIT ||
Have you ever found yourself going from one event in the daytime (casual lunch date, running errands, etc.) to something nicer in the evening (date night, going to a concert, etc.) and having to change your entire outfit? That’s basically the story of my life. And it means that my bedroom floor is never free of clothes because I’m always tossing them everywhere while switching outfits.
But change no more! Well, there’s a little bit of swapping pieces involved, but it’s not as bad as changing every piece! Below are my tips for how to create a simple, yet stylish day-to-night outfit!
TIP #1 || START WITH YOUR ANCHOR PIECES THAT WON’T CHANGE
Every day-to-night outfit needs anchor pieces – the pieces that you love so much that are versatile enough to be worn casually or dressed up. For my outfit, it’s the denim and the sweater. The key is the keep the pieces simple and to use your shoes & accessories to make the outfit distinctly “day” or “night”. I specifically chose this distressed denim because I know they can be dressed up or down, and I chose the sweater because it’s a solid color… almost like a blank canvas for the outfit. These pieces will stay the same for my day-to-night look, making the process of what to wear/having to change much simpler.
TIP #2 || REMEMBER THE GENERAL RULES FOR DAY & NIGHT OUTFITS
Keep these general rules in mind: Day outfits are casual, comfortable, and look effortless. In my case, it’s the sneakers and scarf. Night outfits are a bit more glam/edgy and look like a little more effort was put into looking nice for the occasion. For this outfit, it’s the heels (glam), leather jacket (edgy), and necklace (glam). If you keep these general rules in mind, planning your day-to-night look is going to be much easier!
TIP #3 || SWAP OUT THE SHOES
This one’s simple! Based on the rules above, a day outfit will have sneakers, booties, or casual boots – Basically, shoes that are comfortable and easy to wear. A night outfit will incorporate shoes with a bit more femininity to them. Think heels, dressy sandals, heeled boots/booties, or dressy flats.
TIP #4 || SWAP OUT ACCESSORIES
Another simple, but important one! With your casual day outfit, think about casual accessories. My go-tos are scarves, simple necklaces, hats, or casual jackets/vests like denim or utility. For the dressier nights out, again, think glam or edgy. My go-tos are statement necklaces or earrings, leather jackets, and fancy clutches.
For bonus points in the day-to-night outfit category, you can also change your hairstyle (going from a simple pony to curling your hair) or touch up your makeup (darkening your lipstick and adding more mascara for the night).
