This week I’m sharing a fun little look involving faux fur, suede, and fringe. Which inspired me to write a post sharing my tips for mixing and matching clothing textures when you get dressed!
What do I mean when I say “textures”? I’m talking about the standout clothing textures which, in my book, include:
- Fur, fringe, sequins, lace, leather, heavy knit, velvet/suede, and corduroy
All of these textures need to be worn in moderation. Like, can you imagine an outfit combining all of those? You’d be a hot mess.
So I’m giving you my simple tips for combining those fun textures but in a way that makes you look stylish, not like a crazy person.
TIP 1 || LIMIT YOUR CLOTHING TEXTURES TO JUST 2 ON YOUR BODY (NOT COUNTING ACCESSORIES)
Because the textures I listed are such a bold statement, you don’t need many to get your point across. I think wearing two will show your fashion sense. Any more than that and it starts to look like you’re trying too hard!
In my pictures below, you’ll see I’m rockin’ the faux fur and suede. These are two very bold textures that don’t need much more to say “fashionable”!
TIP 2 || FEEL FREE TO ADD A THIRD TEXTURE WITH YOUR ACCESSORIES
In my photos, you’ll see the faux fur and suede, but then fringe makes an appearance on my purse. When you look at the outfit as a whole, it still doesn’t look too overwhelming. So I say using your accessories for the third texture is okay because you typically don’t wear your accessories all day long. For example, yes, I carry my purse in and out of places, but once I’m there (at a party, in the office, at dinner, etc.), I set the accessory down and don’t have it all the time. The same would go for a scarf or hat. They’re super fun for that extra pop of fashion, but once you take it off, you still want to be left with a few of your fun textures!
