I’ve partnered with World Market to bring you some fun and thoughtful Mother’s Day gifts under $50!
Did you realize Mother’s Day is less than 2 weeks away? That’s still a good amount of time to shop, but this year, I want to encourage us all to go the more thoughtful route! I’ll be honest – I definitely have the ability to be super creative and thoughtful when giving gifts, but sometimes I just get lazy and resort to an easy gift option. But if there’s anyone in my life that adores thoughtful gifts, it’s definitely my mom! So this year, I’ve challenged myself to sit down and brainstorm meaningful gift ideas that she’d love… hence this post! Since I was already started to brainstorm sweet gifts for her, I thought I’d share some fun ideas I’ve had so far!
Before I do that, I thought it’d be fun to reflect back on one of my mom’s favorite gifts that I’ve ever given her. Of course she enjoys every gift that I give her and is really appreciative every time, but it’s always so much more special when I attach a memory or sentiment to the gift. So, for her 50th birthday, I bought a little journal and filled the pages with “50 Reasons Why We Love You” from me, Jay, and Dakota (yes, I’m that person that personifies our dog and makes up things that I would assume he loves about her – ha!). The book was filled with memories from all the back to my early childhood to current memories and inside jokes. Because there was so much thought that went into the gift, she absolutely LOVED it and of course cried over it for about an hour. She still brings up that gift to this day! The point of that story being: Putting a little extra thought into her gifts is so worth it and makes her feel incredibly loved!
Below are the thoughtful Mother’s Day gifts under $50 from World Market that I’ve thought of so far. Each one is super affordable (because who doesn’t love being budget-savvy?) and each one has a meaning behind it that I’ve explained under the image. Obviously, your thoughtful gifts for your mom may be different than mine, but my hope is to give you a little inspiration for your own meaningful gifts!

The “why” behind why my mom would love these gifts:
1 – Teapot || My mom and I love tea. Especially really sweet tea since we’re from Texas. This teapot is an adorable way of saying, “I love you” and “I take note of the things you love!”
2 – Pajama pants || About 5 years ago (while I was still teaching), I was out shopping with my mom and told her I needed a cute pair of pajama pants for our school’s PJ day. We stumbled upon the most darling pair for me and she decided to get a pair too. And that instantly became one of her favorite things – matching with her daughter! Now, anytime there’s an opportunity for us to wear them together, she just loves it! It would definitely be a sweet sentiment to get us another pair so that we have even more mother-daughter matchy-ness!
3 – Gold stemless wine glasses || One of my own personal goals for this year has been to become more hospitable. In talking to my mom recently, she said she loved that goal and also wants to focus on hospitality and opening up her home more. So not only are these wine glasses really cute, but they’re also a thoughtful way to encourage her in her goal of hospitality! (If your mom also loves being the hostess, check out a few more easy entertaining gift ideas!)
4 – Rose soap petals || My mom and I love spa days (I mean, who doesn’t?). Since we don’t live in the same state anymore, we can’t exactly have spa days every month. BUT, I could gift her these soap petals with a little note about treating herself to an at-home spa day. I know she’d appreciate the gift because of the thoughtfulness that went into thinking through what she loves and how best to spoil her! (If your mom is also a spa lover, be sure to check out more spa gifts!)
5 – Owl notecards || This gift is perfect for two reasons. First, my sorority was all about the owls (hey, Chi-O!), so our college house was covered with them and they eventually became my classroom theme when I was teaching. I kinda turned into the crazy owl lady, but for 5 years of teaching, my mom and I became obsessed with finding owl items and they became our inside joke. Secondly, we love writing letters to each other. If I presented the notecards with a note about our inside owl joke and told her the notecards were for writing back and forth to each other, she’d absolutely love it!
6 – Floral scarf || This one’s pretty simple. Since I’m a fashion blogger, she loves anything I pick out for her and proceeds to tell all of her friends that her fashion blogger daughter dressed her! Knowing that I invested time in her wardrobe would make her feel really special!
7 – Pineapple cookie jar || At first glance, it’s just a cookie jar. And you could absolutely leave it at just that. But the “thoughtful” part of the gift comes in when you can tie an item back to an inside joke or memory. One of the many songs we used to sing when I was little was, “Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?” Remember that one? Anyway, attaching a sweet nostalgic note sharing how much I cherish that memory would definitely make her cry happy tears. Oh, the power of nostalgia!
8 – Tassel earrings || This one’s similar to #6. She always loves the latest trends but sometimes gets intimidated by them. So when I spend some time helping her style the new trend (like tassels!), she’s extremely grateful.
9 – Honeysuckle hand soap & lotion || We have some of this matching soap and lotion in our guest bathroom, and every time they come and stay at our house, she makes a comment about how much she loves it. By giving her her own set, it shows her that I listen to what she says. Not to mention, she’ll think of me every time she washes her hands because that smell is associated with our home!
10 – Tassel basket tote || During her recent visit to California, I took a similar basket tote to the beach and she commented on how cute it was. Not only would giving her this bag show that I intentionally took note of her comment, but it’s also another fun way for us to match since she loves that so much!
11 – Floral porcelain travel cups || I love these cups for two reasons: 1) they go perfectly with that adorable teapot from #1 and feed into our tea obsession, and 2) I could keep the second one and we’d once again be matching!
So, moral of the story: The best gifts (especially for your mom) are the meaningful gifts that have thought and sweet memories attached. I’m investing time in my mom’s gift this year, so I challenge you to do the same! And if you’re asking, “But how? I’m not very good at gift-giving or being thoughtful?” No worries! You’re not alone in that. Here are a few little tips that helped guide me in my gift decisions above:
- Make a list of your favorite memories of your mom. What items are associated with those memories? Can you purchase an item that reminds her of that memory and attach a sweet note? (i.e., my cooke jar idea!)
- Listen when she talks and take note of anything she says she loves. (I mean, literally take note. I have multiple lists on my phone for friends and family where I jot down things I hear them say they love so when it’s their birthday or a holiday, I’ll have some ideas ready to go!) By taking note of the things she says, she’ll love knowing you pay attention! (i.e., the tassel basket tote)
- Is there anything you’ve noticed your mom absolutely loves and brings up often? Can you think of other ways to recreate that? (i.e., her love of matching with me and the PJ pants, tote, and travel cups)
Another great way to brainstorm ideas is to head out to your local World Market. By simply browsing the store, I bet you’ll find dozens of thoughtful gift ideas just like I did! I absolutely love wandering through my local store in Santa Ana, so be sure to use their store locator to find your closest store so you can get your Mother’s Day gift inspiration!
