So today’s post is a little different than my usual posts. I’m branching out a bit and sharing my June health and beauty goals! Why? Because I believe the best blog posts happen when bloggers share things that they’re passionate about and especially when bloggers invite their readers along with them on their journey.
Well, that’s exactly what I’m doing today – inviting y’all along with me as I set goals for myself this month and do my best to achieve them!
|| June Health and Beauty Goals ||
1 || Develop a new and better skincare routine. (beauty)
In the past, I’ve shared an Osea Skincare Review (their products are organic, vegan, and gluten-free) as well as my Acne Stress Control Skincare Routine. While these skin care routines aren’t bad at all, I think I need to step up my overall skincare game. Currently, the Acne Stress Control stuff is great for my periodic breakouts, but doesn’t include anything anti-aging. And, yes, I realize that I’m not very old yet. But I should still be thinking long-term and I know that I’ll be so mad at myself 20-30 years from now if I don’t start taking better care of my skin right now!
What I really want/need is to sit down with someone, have them take a look at my skin, and recommend a skincare regimen and products based on my individual needs. I want that personal touch because I’m a researcher and have tried researching the best products out there and it is SO overwhelming. There are tons and tons of products out there and everyone’s skin is different, so it’s incredibly hard to trust online reviews. (For example, I received a free sample of a very highly rated product online and, lo and behold, my skin had an allergic reaction to it and is still recovering – sigh.)
That being said, I have a friend who’s an esthetician and I’ve been chatting with her a bit. We’re currently setting up a time for me to come in and meet with her. The plan is to have her take a look at my skin and recommend a regimen and products that best suit me! I’ll be sure to keep y’all posted and do an updated skincare routine once I get started!
2 || Drink more water. (health)
Y’all. I’m so terrible about drinking water. I will go days without drinking any at all (I know, so bad!). And every time I have an issue (headache, chapped lips, etc), I’ll look up remedies and prevention online and basically all roads lead back to drinking more water.
So I decided it’s officially time to start drinking water. But just having plain ‘ol water bottles around the house isn’t cutting it anymore, so I needed to get myself excited to drink water. How, you ask? That’s where my new water diffuser comes in! It has been the BEST decision I’ve made in a while! Here’s why I love it: 1) keeping one water bottle throughout the day helps me keep track of how much I drink instead of drinking out of cups; 2) by cutting up fresh fruit, it gives the water flavor because apparently I don’t like regular, plain water; and 3) it’s so pretty when I can see the fruit, making the water more appealing to drink!
So do I have to treat myself like a 5-year-old and trick myself into drinking water? Basically. But it’s working! I’m 1 week into June and have met my water quota every day so far! (My water goal is to drink 3 of those bottles a day, so 84 ounces. The minimum that you should be drinking every day is half of your weight in ounces, but preferably more, FYI!)
3 || Start an abs and booty workout. (health)
I’ve been doing yoga since August and am absolutely loving it. I mean, who wouldn’t love a class where it’s completely acceptable to lay down in the middle of it whenever you’re feeling tired?! It’s keeping me in pretty good shape and is doing wonders for my old-lady back. However, it’s not building a ton of muscle in the areas that I really care about.
So, Jay is helping me put together a quick ab and booty workout that I can add on to the end of my yoga class at the gym. My goal is to do these under-30-minute-exercises 3 times a week, so I’ll keep you posted!
4 || Find some good quality hair extensions. (beauty)
This one may sound a little silly, but the other day I was looking through old college pictures and stumbled upon one that made me say, “Wow, I looked really pretty then!” I realized it was because my hair was looking fabulous and remembered that it was back when I had my hair extensions! Unfortunately, I can’t use those same extensions anymore because I had a full head of brown hair several years ago, so that would look plain terrible with my ‘do now. So I’m currently on the hunt for some great quality clip-in extensions. I’m probably going to have to take them to my stylist for her to do the ombre on them, but that’s fine with me!
Hopefully none of this comes off at being too superficial or image-obsessed, because that’s not my heart behind it! I believe that it’s really important to feel healthy and that liking what you see in the mirror inspires a lot of self confidence! Each year, I want to continue being a better version of myself, and that includes becoming healthier and continuing to put effort into my appearance – both for my own self-esteem and for the enjoyment of my husband (I always want to try to be one of the most attractive people in the room because then he doesn’t need to have wandering eyes!). If that’s not your outlook on health and beauty, that’s totally fine and I definitely don’t want to push my opinions on you. My hope is that I can encourage and inspire others through my goals this month!
